Sonia Urquhart

Sonia was born in Toronto, Ontario and enjoyed drawing as a child.  She majored in Visual Arts in school and her goal was to teach art. Things changed once she met her husband in 1972, they had two girls.  She was able to do some freelance artwork at home, as her girls got older.

While living in Victoria, B.C. she became a member and coordinator of Esquimalt Painter's group, plus a member of the Arts Council of Greater Victoria, the Coast Collective, Artist in Motion, Griffin Gallery and Studio 30 Art Group.

She moved back to Alberta, where she exhibited at the Blooming Garden Show and on Whyte Ave. in Edmonton, Alberta.

In 2015, she moved to Lavoy where she joined Vegreville Visual Artists group. In 2018 she designed the mural for the info center at the Elks Park where the Pysanka Egg is.  She has shown at the Pysanka Festival and several other shows in the area.

Sonia is a member of the Alberta Council for the Ukranian Arts ACUA.  Her paintings have been sold in Canada and the USA.

Since becoming a member of VVA, she has participated in the VVA Art Walk 2019 and shows.  Sonia's works of art are on display with the VVA galleries in Vegreville at the Library and the Vegreville Dental Centre.
