Martha is a local artist who works in oils, watercolors and acrylics. She grew up on a farm near Big Valley, Alberta and was inspired by the natural beauty of the area. Martha enjoys painting a wide variety of subjects including landscapes, animals, florals, people and abstracts. Regardless of the subject, Martha’s favorite scenes have a

strong interplay between light and shadow. The contrast between these two elements gives the painting drama and interest.

Over the years, she has taken courses from the University of Alberta faculty of Extension, Sutton Art in Sherwood Park, Red Deer College and Pros Art in Edmonton. Martha is also exploring the world of mixed media as well as other altered art techniques. These non traditional approaches allow her to incorporate found and discarded objects into her art work. Objects that would have otherwise been sent to a land fill are repurposed and given a new lease on life.

For Martha, art is not only about capturing the beauty of God’s creation, it is also about making a positive impact, whether it is in peoples lives or in our environment. We are, after all, stewards of this big beautiful planet. Martha has displayed her work in the Vegreville Art Walk as well as many Art Shows in the past. Her works are displayed in Vegreville at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Centennial Library and Vegreville Dental Centre.
